Nick Parnell - Secret Songs

Sunday 29 October 3:00pm - Wesley of Warragulparnell tix

Like beguiling treasures unearthed in fine antique shops, often the lesser-known gems are more entrancing.  Vibraphonist Nick Parnell, a five star musician – and secret revealer – unveils his musical treasures centre-stage in Secret Songs.

Parnell’s magical mallets lovingly hurl audiences into new sonic worlds full of kaleidoscopic colour.

With no stone unturned, the Vibes Virtuoso has mined the very best of living composers to present Secret Songs, an upbeat feast of music full of light and shade.

The collection includes two world premiere pieces composed especially for Parnell.

The first piece, Borderline, by distinguished Australian composer and artist Paul Grabowsky fractures reality with a series of intricate rhythmic canons. The second premiere parnell webinclusion is composed by gifted Australian pianist and composer Joe Chindamo.

Parnell also presents A Singing Song, a solo masterwork of four-mallet pianistic playing style by Gary Burton, the US vibraphone legend and musical collaborator with jazz great Chick Corea.

Prized by percussionists worldwide, Carousel by Dave Friedman and Dave Samuels is an exhilarating, high energy and virtuosic work. Also revealed is the secret version of Gershwin’s An American in Paris.

In this program there are many more encounters of joyous jazz, pulsing world music and elegant classical works.

Nick Parnell’s music has been called ‘liquid silver floating’. Be warned – his Secret Songs makes it simply impossible to encounter ordinary musical performance again.
